Hey all
You may ask where and when did I learn my craft?
I have spent many years travelling around the country and have lived in all but one state. There is always someone who knows an easy or better way to create something and I enjoy learning.
As a child I was taught by my grandmother how to Knit, Crochet, Sew and to create. To her it was all a way of teaching a child to learn. I was never great at reading so Nana would get me to read patterns that way I could see where I was going wrong.
Mother encouraged me to enter into the craft section of the local shows. It was a lot of fun and I did get some ribbons.
It took me a while but in my twenties I attend TAFE in VIC to obtain an Advanced Certificate in Clothing Manufacture. Followed by several years as a Tailor.
I completed a certificate in Home decor thought TAFE in NSW; I made bedding, curtains and covered furniture.
I made almost all of my Daughters clothing and toys when she was young. I made clothing for my son too.
I have attended workshops in the NT where I was shown how to create baskets from roots, branches, banana trunks, threads and twigs; also how to create cloth dolls and how to make quilts.
When I was in WA I went to the most wonderful workshops on how to create Christmas decorations. We lived of the coast, 400 km off the coast so there were no worries to put up Christmas light and no rain. Not like now where you can not put up lights for fear a cyclone will come in.
I taught Beading at Quilt and Craft show, not just in the Lucky country but also in NZ.
I am a big believer in once you know how to make or do something you should show others how to recreate it too.
